Jordan’s Pick

Hi Friends and Supporters!
My name is Jordan. I’m a high-school student living in North Toronto and I’m excited to share a project I’ve been working on that I believe could make a real difference! I was diagnosed with an anaphylactic allergy to walnuts, pecans, and hazelnuts as a toddler, and then diagnosed with celiac disease (an allergy to gluten) as a young teen. As someone who knows how tough it can be for people with serious food allergies to eat out safely, I’ve created a website that will help everyone enjoy worry-free meals at our local food court in Yorkdale Mall. Food courts are designed to have tons of options to suit everyone’s tastes and yummy food is served moments after its ordered. But food courts and safe choices can be overwhelming for people with food allergies like me.

My idea is simple but powerful: this website that lists common allergens found in the foods served at each restaurant in the food court. This will make it so much easier for people with food allergies to make safe choices and still enjoy the fun experience of dining out without the stress. While nothing in life is perfect, I’ve done my best to compile this information from many avaliable sources, including restaurant and company websites, publications, and personally speaking with staff at these outlets in Yorkdale Mall.

The important information that I’ve worked to collect and share on jordanspicks.ca is free for everyone to use. Eventually, I hope to expand the site to include all food courts in Toronto, and even across Canada. If you do find this website helpful, please consider making a donation on behalf of my campaign to Food Allergy Canada using the link at the bottom of this page. Whether it’s by donating, sharing this post, or spreading the word, you’re helping make a big difference.

Thanks so much for being a part of this journey with me. Let’s make eating out fun and safe for everyone!

With gratitude,
Jordan B
